This section of your plate should be filled with a variety of fruits and vegetables. Focus on colorful options like leafy greens, tomatoes, carrots, and berries, which are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber that support heart health and reduce cholesterol.

Use this section of lean protein sources that are beneficial for heart health. Opt for skinless poultry, fish high in omega-3 fatty acids like salmon or mackerel, or plant-based proteins like beans and lentils. These proteins can help maintain muscle mass without adding unhealthy fats. Limit foods high in sodium and excess seasonings on your protein such as pre-seasoned meats and hot dogs/sausages. It is always best to use your own seasonings and focus on herbs and spices over salt.

Your 20%
Reserve this section for whole grains or starchy vegetables, which provide essential fiber and help maintain steady blood sugar levels. Good choices include whole grains like oats, quinoa, or brown rice, and starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes, which are high in fiber and have low glycemic index, making them heart-friendly options.
